Children with autism often experience difficulties in social interaction, language expression, thinking, and behaviour. This study analyzed the ability of Bangla-speaking children with autism to observe and interpret social communication events and situations. A video stimulus titled “Meena: Maintain Social Distance and Stay Safe from Coronavirus” was used to assess participants’ observation skills. Ten high-functioning Bangla-speaking autistic children participated in the study. Each participant was asked eight questions, resulting in 80 responses. The findings show that participants were unable to provide answers in approximately 73% of the cases. The study also revealed that Bangla-speaking autistic children experienced difficulties in understanding and using different synonymous expressions for the same word across varying environmental and situational contexts. The findings highlight important limitations in social communication and situational observation among high-functioning autistic children and indicate the need for context-sensitive communication and language-support interventions.
