Child labour is a serious social problem in developing countries and adversely affects human resource development and sustainable development. In Bangladesh, particularly in Dhaka, child labour in the transport sector is a major concern because children engaged in this work are exposed to various risks and deprived of basic rights and opportunities. This study aimed to identify the causes and effects of children’s involvement in the transport sector. An exploratory social survey was conducted using survey and observation methods. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews with 105 child workers selected through purposive sampling in Dhaka city. The findings indicate that economic hardship, school dropout, and psychosocial factors contribute to children’s involvement in transport-sector work. Despite earning a small income, they experience long working hours, inadequate rest, abuse by passengers and employers, discontinuation of education, and frequent illness. The study recommends measures to prevent school dropout, promote healthy development, and protect children’s rights.
